Coon Rapids Man Charged with 1st Degree Drug Possession

A Coon Rapids man has been charged with first degree drug possession from an incident that happened in the beginning of November.

Detectives from the Anoka Hennepin Drug Task Force got a tip that they could buy cocaine from 64-year-old Dennis Lee Richardson of Coon Rapids.

Richardson allegedly agreed to sell the confidential informant an ounce of cocaine for $1,400 at the Home Depot parking lot at Riverdale in Coon Rapids.  The drug deal was arranged for 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

The confidential informant was wearing a wire, and police say they overheard the alleged drug deal take place. They moved in to arrest Richardson and he took off running until the detectives caught up with him, according to the criminal complaint. Police say he had more than 36 grams of cocaine.

Richardson was previously convicted of a first degree controlled substance crime with a 98 month prison sentence stayed until 2028.

Richardson has been charged with a first degree controlled substance crime. If convicted he faces up to 40 years in prison and up to $1 million in fines.
