U of M, Collaborators Get $16M to Improve Medicare ICU Visits

The University of Minnesota is getting part of a $16 million grant to improve the care of Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries in intensive care units.

The grant was awarded to the U of M’s Center for Design in Health, Mayo Clinic, Phillips Research North America, and the US Critical Illness and Injury Trial Groups.

According to the U of M, many treatment errors happen to Medicare patients because of information overload. The grant will help the organizations use technology to prevent these medical errors, specifically by creating a cloud-based clinical decision support system.

The system will be part of Mayo Clinic’s Ambient Warning and Response Evaluation application.

The collaborators will train about 1,440 caregivers over a three-year period.
