Forest Lake Couple Apparently Drowns in BWCA

A Forest Lake couple apparently drowned after their canoe capsized in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office says the bodies of Thomas Pineault, 55, and Cynthia Pineault, 51, were recovered from Alton Lake. Two passing canoeists discovered a capsized canoe and their bodies floating in the water around 12:40 p.m. Sunday. Alton Lake is north of Tofte.
Authorities believe their bodies had been in the water for 24 hours or more. Foul play is not suspected.
The sheriff's office says the area was subject to high winds and cool temperatures late last week, creating difficult conditions for canoeing.
Both were wearing life jackets.
