2 Arrested after High-Speed Chase in Stearns Co.

Two people were arrested early Saturday following a car chase after authorities received a report of gunshots being fired from a vehicle in Holding Township.

Just after midnight, Stearns County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to County Road 9 and County Road 151 after a caller said they were being shot at by people in a brown Suburban.

The sheriff's office says deputies located the vehicle and tried to stop it on County Road 151 near the intersection of 395th Street. It took off eastbound on 390th Street and went through a plowed field at one point.

Deputies chased the vehicle as it drove at high speeds, weaved through both lanes and went through a stop sign. The vehicle eventually stopped a couple miles into St. Wendel Township.

Four people were removed from the vehicle.

The sheriff's office says the driver, Jacob Whalen of Long Prairie, was arrested for fleeing police in a motor vehicle. A passenger, Keith Kern of Swanville, was arrested on three counts of second-degree assault. Both were taken to the Stearns County Jail.

None of the victims were injured.

The incident remains under investigation.
