Settlement Could Pass on Credit Card Processing Costs to Shoppers
A big legal settlement could cost you more to shop.
Credit card companies like Visa and Mastercard have been charging retailers a processing fee for every swipe of a credit card. Retailers fought back, filing a lawsuit against those companies.
A settlement is pending. If it’s reached, stores could recoup those fees by passing on the cost to the shopper, with a tax up to 3 percent for credit card transactions.
