Coalition Meets to Find Solution to Asian Carp Spread

Sportsmen, environmentalists, and property owners joined together today to call for a permanent solution to the Asian Carp.

The locks on the upper Mississippi closed earlier this month for winter, but the coalition today asked for Lock One to stay closed even after the ice melts in the spring. They say that would give the Army Corps of Engineers and the DNR time to come up with a plan to block the carp from spreading north.

Earlier this year, the DNR got several positive DNA samples from the Mississippi River as far north as Coon Rapids. No fish have been found in the water yet.
