Tom Durian - Anchor

"To tell our viewers' stories is a privilege. It also gives me a chance to learn a little bit about a lot of different subjects on a daily basis... what other job offers that?"

Previous Experience
Tom didn't have to travel far to join KSTP 5 Eyewitness News as an anchor/reporter in 2013. For the last two years he anchored the morning and noon newscasts at the CBS affiliate in Milwaukee. Before coming to the Midwest, Tom was an anchor and reporter for KHQ in Spokane, Washington and KMIR in Palm Springs, California.

Tom studied journalism at both the College of the Desert in California and UCLA.

Career Highlights
Politics took center stage for Tom's time in Wisconsin where he covered the recall attempt on Governor Scott Walker; Congressman Paul Ryan's pick as the 2012 Vice Presidential candidate; and the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. Tom also anchored six hours of live coverage after the shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin and spent the following days at the scene of the tragedy.  His most memorable stories happened at sea. He spent the night on the U.S.S. Ronald Regan off the coast of Mexico, learning what life was like for the men and women onboard. He and his photojournalist received a certificate for taking part in an "arrested landing" and "catapulted take off" from the giant ship. Tom also spent time at Ground Zero at the World Trade Center and along the Gulf Coast, following 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina.

While at KMIR, Tom was part of an Emmy award winning team of journalists honored with "Best Newscast." He has also been nominated for an Associated Press Television and Radio (APTRA) award.
