This year's tree lighting ceremony will feature a brilliantly lit six-foot star at the top of the holiday tree and a spectacular fireworks display following the lighting celebration. Rice Park powered by Xcel Energy captures the spirit of the holiday season with a tree as tall and bright as the iconic Rockefeller Center tree in New York City. The gigantic tree in Rice Park will be lit with 30,000 energy-efficient LED lights, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The park will sparkle with millions of twinkling lights, classic Nutcracker and angel statues, and other holiday decor. Make downtown Saint Paul your family holiday destination!
Rice Park powered by Xcel Energy has partnered with Make-A-Wish Foundation of Minnesota and their Season of Wishes campaign. Granting a child's wish at the holidays is what makes this season magical. And for a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition, no wish is too big or too small.
Nicholas is a bright 17-year old from Chanhassen who has an adrenal gland tumor. He enjoys hunting, fishing and camping. Nicholas is especially interested in physics and aerospace engineering and dreams of becoming an engineer or a pilot. Nicholas' wish is to go to Hawaii. He is excited to try deep sea fishing and snorkeling while he is there since he has never been to the ocean. This trip will be the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation for Nicholas.
Season of Wishes™ combines the spirit of holiday giving with hope, strength and joy that is generated from a Make-A-Wish experience. The campaign also provides a tremendous opportunity for the public to experience the extraordinary emotional impact that comes from fulfilling a child's greatest wish.
