David Niedzielski, 28, was arrested July 4. He is being held at the Hennepin County Jail and faces second-degree burglary charges. Bail has been set at $120,000. Tamara Niedzielski says her brother only wanted to help and was concerned their neighbor, Chuck Lindemans, 55, whom he had not been seen for weeks. "They started yelling, telling him, open your door now or we're going to come in, something's wrong," she said. So David Niedzielski broke down the side door and found Lindemans’ body inside the victim's home in the 2800 block of Morgan Avenue North. But instead of calling for help, police say, he stole from the deceased man. "The guy proceeds to allegedly move the body and then continue to go through the house, ransacking it, taking jewelry, watches and guns," explained Minneapolis Police Sgt. Jesse Garcia. "He didn't come out with anything, that we could see, in his possession, until the police had tackled him to the ground and stuff came out of his pocket. He was drunk and he's highly medicated everyday. I believe he should be punished. But I don't believe he should be given prison time for being concerned," Tamara Niedzielski said. The victim’s sister, Jerra Ward Alhassan, lives nearby and who says she is upset and saddened. "Makes me feel like I can't really trust my neighbors. It would be nice if they would apologize to the family," she said. "I prayed to the guy, and I apologized to him. I told him I’m sorry. But honestly, if it wasn't for us, the guy would still be up there right now," said Tamara Niedzielski. She also says David Niedzielski never moved the body or ransacked the house. |
