February 10, 2008 – Valentine’s Day With The Kids.
I remember the days when I would look forward to Valentine’s Day for the chocolates, the flowers and the romance. Now, I look forward to Valentine’s Day for the cute decorations I get to help my daughters put up, the cookies we bake together and the dinner my husband is very excited to surprise us with. I’ve talked to a few of my girlfriends and they think I’m wrong for this. They say a married couple should still take the day to celebrate their relationship and each other. So I’m wondering, what you think of this? I get that a couple still needs some one-on-one time, but does it really have to be on Valentine’s Day, when Hallmark makes a ton of money on cards, or roses go from $24.00 a dozen to $50 or $60 a dozen or when every restaurant is so packed, you still have to wait a half hour even with dinner reservations. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those people who hate the holiday. I just think that when two people have created a family, it’s a great day to celebrate together. When I was growing up, my dad would created a seafood feast for my mom and my brothers and sisters. With nearly a dozen people around the table it was anything but romantic, but I always looked forward to Valentine’s Day. Now my husband and I are hoping to create a similar tradition. So if you agree with me, let me know, I’d love to have some ammunition the next time I’m getting grief from my girlfriends about this. Oh, and Happy Valentine’s Day.
