It was a few years ago my daughter hopped into a limo joining her friends for an evening of glitz and glam. Felt like she was preparing for the academy awards. I've never seen so much time spent on preparing. I realize though it is a big event. So, maybe it's the high school equivalent of an academy awards fashion look. So a week ago, she brought two dresses back from Macy's. A small committee was formed... she had one, a long slender gown redish in color. The other I would describe as a Cinderella looking dress. The committee was comprised of her, my significant other and me. after about a half hour of comparing the dress and gown, she went with the dress. White, with sparkles on it. It matched her gold shoes. I thought great... end of story. But noooooooo! Then there is the hair to contend with. I figured, a hair salon would do the trick. Instead she needed one of those curling irons with a ceramic clasp. She told me we had to find and buy a "special" type because the metal clasps will ruin hair. It had to be a special size, brand, etc. So I bought that. Oh wait, there's more, as in hair products, shampoo and conditioner. Actually I enjoyed going out to pick up those things, but it's not a quick five minutes... it's pretty involved. Lots of decisions, decisions, decisions. The day of the prom, I get this cell phone text " Daddy I need you to order a pink boutonniere". I come home, make calls, and was able to find one at the local flower shop for only eleven dollars. Mission accomplished. It turned out to be a great afternoon. Her friends came over, and she looked fabulous. She and her date had a special evening. I took pictures before they left. I have one with the two of us before she left. It's amazing how fast kids grow up. |
