INTERNET INSITE: Stunning photo galleries of your family
Most people have switched to using digital cameras to take photos of their family and friends. But what most people don't realize is that you can easily make stunning online photo presentations with those photos.
KSTP.com Web Manager Justin Piehowski introduced viewers Monday morning to two of the hottest online sites for building photo slideshows:
Before creating a slideshow on either of these sites, please take this advice: Play around with them and spend some time using them. They are both fairly user-friendly and can do amazing things, but require you put some thought in to them. Don't be afraid to click different buttons and experiment!
Here's how to get started on slide:
First, register with the site at the link: http://www.slide.com/joinslide. Once you're in, go back to the front page and click the yellow MAKE A SLIDE SHOW button on the left-hand side of the page.
This is where it gets really easy. Click the BROWSE button in the middle of the page. Identify the source file of the photo you want to upload and click open. Your photo will begin uploading and in about 30-45 seconds, you should see that photo become part of your slideshow. Repeat this process with all of the different photos you want to use.
Now, time to customize. Click the different buttons under CUSTOMIZE on the left side to see your pics in different types of slideshows. Then, click the tabs on the right to see different options for themes, skins and sizes.
When you've got your slideshow customized as you want it, click the green save button at the bottom of the page. Then, on the right side of the page you'll see a link that says SHARE THIS SLIDE SHOW:. Select this link, copy it to your clipboard (Ctrl-C) and then paste it into an email (Ctrl-V).
Now, just type in all of your friends' emails and show them your family like they've never seen before.
Here's how to get started on Slideroll.
First, you'll need to register with the site at this link: http://www.slideroll.com/join.php. Uncheck the boxes at the bottom of the sign-up page if you don't want to receive mail form them.
Once you're in, click SLIDESHOW CREATOR in the upper-left-hand corner of the page. Then click UPLOAD PHOTOS. Follow the onscreen directions to upload all of the photos you'd like in your slideshow into your cue.
It will ask you if you'd like to make a slideshow out of the photos, click yes. Then name your slideshow and click apply.
Click DONE to get to your slideshow creator. On the left, you'll see the photos you uploaded. Click and hold the photo you'd like to add and drag it to the bar along the bottom, let go of it. Continue to do this to lay out your slideshow in a linear fashion. Play around with the different options, such as transitions and sound.
You can always preview your slideshow in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen by clicking play.
When you have your slideshow configured as you like it, click publish in the lower-right hand corner of the page. Click publish again to get a code to post your online slideshow movie to a Web page.
To see your photo slideshow, go back to slideroll.com, click My Slideshows and you should see your most recent slideshow pop up in the middle. Click it to get the link to send on to friends.
