Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009: "That's Amazing!"

Meet some ordinary Minnesotans who do extraordinary things!  See how volunteers are saving historic sunken shipwrecks along the North Shore of Lake Superior.  Watch TV talk show host Regis Philbin challenge an 85-year-old Minnesota champion to a table tennis match!  And we're there the day an 80-year-old great-grandmother goes skydiving for the first time!

The Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society was formed in 1986 to stabilize and restore valuable sunken shipwrecks in Lake Superior, and the rest of the Great Lakes region.  We follow daring volunteer divers who are working to preserve a rare, 117-year-old wooden sailing scow called the "Mayflower" that sank near the mouth of the Lester River in Duluth. Click on the Society's link for more information about this shipwreck and many others!

This is the only Minnesotan who can say, "I won a table tennis game against TV Talk Show Host Regis Philbin"...and that's at the age of 85!  See how this table tennis champion keeps her game sharp and keeps the small white ball hopping!

Whew!  This is one daring grandmother who decides at the age of 80 she'd like to jump out of a plane to commemorate her late husband's birthday!  We follow Alta Norlund of Becker, Minnesota to Skydive Twin Cities in Baldwin, Wisconsin to watch her get her wish!

One day, a man from Minneapolis was feeling sad and out of sorts...and on a hike  around a lake, he started planting acorns, randomly in the soil.  Now, 26 years later, he's responsible for planting, by seed, more than 15-hundred oak trees!  See the oakwoods he created, right in the middle of Minneapolis!

"On the Road Classic" Elmer's Museum
See this amazing collection close to home!   For more than 50 years, a guy named "Elmer" collected classic automobiles, antique toys and toy pedal cars and put them all in several large buildings on Eagle Bluff, the highest point along the Mississippi River, in Fountain City, Wisconsin. Now you can see Elmer's Auto and Toy Museum, too, when we go "On the Road"!
