SONG: UPDATE Jon's reunion story is this Thurs. at 10 p.m.
I'm happy to share with viewers/blog readers that Jon and his mother reunited. He went to Korea on Dec. 27 and returns this week. His wife, Carrie, sent these e-mails to me (Keep checking here in the next few days to find out when this second part will air): I just talked to Jon a few hours ago and he is at his Mom's along with many other relatives and a cousin who remembers playing with him when he was little. His mother's home is very small - no tub or shower - just a small kitchen, bedroom, toilet and sink. I guess he found out he was never in an orphanage. He stayed with his mother until he got on the plane to US and the leather coat that he was wearing when he arrived here was her last gift to him ( we don't have the coat but we do have the liner). He said his mother is "cooking up a storm". A cousin of his is married to an American pastor and they were going to visit the military base in Kunsan and going to visit the church. He said he has had warm welcoming from all his relatives and he said his mother is very
short and that Julia is taller than her. Last night when they went out for coffee it was in the 40s and his mother was trying to get him to "bundle up" and Jon was like no I'm from Minnesota 40's is perfect. Today (Tuesday already over there) they woke up to snow. Later this week they are going back to Seoul to visit more relatives and a have New Year's Party.

Hi, Just a new update - Jon and his mother were on the follow-up show at KBS in Seoul yesterday. Afterward they had a little get together with KBS employees. Jon confirmed his dreams about the Buddhist monk saving him from getting beaten up by other kids was true. The place where his mother lived when he was young was across the street from the Buddhist monk's temple/home. The pastor who is married to one of Jon's cousins is doing research for him regarding his father. I guess they hit it off well because they are both Republicans. Jon said the one cousin that remembers playing with him when they were young look a lot alike - she's a girl so I told Jon to be sure to take pictures. He said he is not getting much sleep and our dog at home here is going thru a mild depression not seeing Jon for so long. It must be a male dog thing - don't really understand it since I do must of the caring for the dog. Carrie |
