I'm honored to have been able to share the story of an amazing family. However, at the same time, I wish we never would've met because we met after their devastating loss. In August, 22-year-old Jamie Baer was in a car crash in Rogers. The driver was speeding. Witnesses say he was driving more than 100 miles an hour. Jamie was critically injured. She fought for her life for 25 days, but on September 15th she died. But a piece of Jamie lives on. When she was in the crash, she was 25 weeks pregnant. Doctors at Hennepin County Medical Center were able to deliver the baby girl via c-section. She weighed just one pound, twelve ounces. Jamie's mother, Kari, with the help of friends and family, stayed by the baby's side. Kari named the baby Angel and just last week, she brought Angel home. The last time she brought a baby home, was Jamie, 22 years ago. I asked this empty nester why she took on this task. She told me she didn't have a choice because this baby is a part of her. I can't help but think that some people would walk away. Some people would be too devastated after their daughter's death to take on such a task. Having seen Angel myself, I can tell you she is just precious. She's still on an oxygen tank and will likely need extra care. But, Angel now weighs more than six pounds and doctors say they hope and believe she can become a fully healthy little girl. Of course a funeral, medical bills and a baby costs a lot of money. This is where you can help. There's a benefit on December 6th from 5-8pm at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Corcoran. You can also donate to the Jamie Baer Trust Benefit Account at any Wells Fargo Bank. Kari is an inspirational person, and I hope she gets the help she will need. You can watch the most recent story I did on Angel by pushing play on the video player above.
