CAFFREY: Thanksgiving in Romania

Romania - Happy Thanksgiving

Got up early today in Canada and traveled across the pond. At midnight central time, or around 3 a.m. in the middle of the Atlantic ocean south of Iceland our friends with the 133rd Airlift cracked open their turkey sub from Subway and ate up.

Everyone who wasn't sound asleep was in good spirit as they recorded greetings to family and friends back home on camera. As much as we wanted to post all of these greetings we ran into a deadline crunch filing stories for our 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts in Romania.

But I believe the messages each Airmen recorded into mic and heard over the in-flight headset intercom was heard by others Airmen and turned out to be a special moment to the crew on board at the time.

Whether it was a shout out to their wife or kids, Mom, Dad, Grandparent, boyfriend or Uncle and Aunt each person sent a heartfelt hello and did a nice job. Leah and I enjoyed a bagged lunch in Scotland with the Airmen. And hope to get into Afghanistan soon. Our goal is to document the real news stories of the work the 133rd is doing in theatre with missions and showcase everyday life on the base. Stay tuned.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Joe
