It's cold but you dress in warm layers. The best part of the flight is the cots. After we got going they pulled down cots in the middle of the aisle. They stack up like bunk beds. A six hour flight isn't so bad when you get to take a nice nap in the middle of it. The other nice part of flying with the 133rd Airlift Wing is that they let us explore the plane. My photographer Joe and I got to sit up front in the cockpit for the landing. The pilots talked us through the process and let us get a peak at the great view as we came in. Once we landed we learned a piece of equipment wasn't working during the flight. It's not a dangerous problem, but it's enough to slow us down. Now we are in Canada waiting for a new part to be delivered. Once the plane is fixed we'll move on the the second leg of the trip but right now we are just waiting. This trip to Afghanistan includes several stops along the way. This stop wasn't supposed to be this long. But we may make up time some where else along the way. I'm excted to see what's next. But the airmen know what's next and they are pretty happy staying here for now. Although, they are concerned about their friends who they are relieving in Afghanistan. They can't leave until this group gets there and they don't want to make them wait. As far as I can tell we are traveling with a great group of people. They run the plane like pros and they are all friendly and accomidating to us, their extra passengers. We'll see how long it takes to fix the plane today. For now we just have to wait. This is the other thing people warned me about, traveling with the military I shouldn't expect everything to go as planned. |
