Twin Cities businessman Denny Hecker closed six car dealerships and sold three leaving about 400 employees without jobs.
The company made the announcement late Friday night.
"The decision to re-align our dealerships came as we found ourselves in the midst of a perfect storm of economic bad news: a financial crisis on wall street, chaos in the housing market, consumer confidence at an all time low and the sight of the big three on their knees in Washington asking for a bailout plan, " said Hecker in a statement.
The following dealerships closed: -Blaine Bargain lot -Forest Lake Chrysler Jeep Dodge Mitsubishi -Monticello Dodge Ford and Mercury Suzuki Kia -Rosedale Hyundai -Shakopee Chrysler Jeep Dodge -Stillwater Ford Lincoln Mercury
These three dealerships were sold to private investors: -Inver Grove Heights Hyundai -Inver Grove Heights Volkswagen -Peninsula Dodge
Seven of Denny Hecker's dealerships in Minnesota are still open for business. The management team says it will focus on those remaining.
