Vendors from around the state and country hoped to cash in on the convention at the CivicFest event, but they say the event was a bust. Now, they are taking action.
The event, held to highlight United States and Minnesota History, gave the public a chance to have a photo taken with a Bald Eagle, view a miniature White House or gaze at the gowns of previous First Ladies. But for vendors in the marketplace next to the exhibit,s it was a big bust.
Many vendors have expressed disappointment and now, they want their money back. For some, that' means getting back the $2,500 they spend to rent space for a booth.
Vendors believe they were duped when told they'd see 150,000 visitors walk through. Some of the vendors say they didn't see half of that amount.
In response to their complaints, vendors have received letters that say the following:
"We will look into your concerns in a fair and reasonable way. If you have additional outstanding issues please send these concerns to the Minneapolis Saint Paul 2008 Host Committee."
But even if Brian Schroeder, one of the vendors, gets his money back, you won't likely see him back in the Twin Cities.
"I will never come back to a convention in this town because of being misled," Schroeder said. "They lost my business for life."
