KSTP-TV/KSTC.TV Eyewitness News team leads the way at Upper Midwest Emmy Awards 10/7/02

--CHANNEL 5 RECEIVES 20 EMMY HONORS--

KSTP-TV and KSTC.TV took home 23 Emmy Awards at the third annual Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Awards and Silver Circle Induction held Saturday at the Metropolitan Ballroom in Golden Valley.  Channel 5's 20 awards were by far the most of any television station in the competition.  The Emmys are presented by the Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), which includes television stations in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Western Wisconsin and Northern Iowa.

For the second consecutive year, KSTP/KSTC news anchor Harris Faulkner was named "Best Anchor" for Channel 5 Eyewitness News Live at 5 and Channel 45 Eyewitness News at Nine weekdays.  KSTP/KSTC sports director Joe Schmit received the award for "Best Sports Anchor" as well as "Best Sports Program" for Joe Schmit's SportsWrap.  Channel 5 Eyewitness News Morning, the most watched local morning news program, was named "Best Single Morning News" for its coverage of ABC's Good Morning America on April 30, 2002, which originated live from Stillwater, Minnesota.  The station swept the Community/Public Service and Public Affairs categories, winning Emmys for the Tenth Annual Race for the Cure 2002 campaign, Hollywood 2002 spot, and At Issue with Tom Hauser.  Channel 45, celebrating its two-year anniversary, earned three Emmy Awards for Non-News Promotion Spot, Soft Feature, and Program Hosts Non-News.

KSTP-TV Channel 5 (the Twin Cities ABC affiliate) and independent sister station KSTC.TV Channel 45 are locally owned and operated by Hubbard Broadcasting, Inc.  Home of Eyewitness News, the stations produce more hours of regularly-scheduled news broadcasts than any other Twin Cities' television news station.
