The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. The regional Murrow Awards are judged by a panel of news managers from across the country. RTNDA will present the awards officially at the Midwest Journalism Conference in the Twin Cities on April 6, 2002. Winners from the regional awards go on to the national competition, which is judged by the board of directors each June. Region 4 consists of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

KSTP-TV, home of Channel 5 Eyewitness News, is owned and operated by Hubbard Broadcasting, Inc. KSTP-TV (the Minneapolis-Saint Paul ABC affiliate) and independent KSTC-TV Forty5 remain the only locally-owned, locally-operated television news stations serving the Twin Cities area.
