Updated: 07/31/2009 3:45 PM KSTP.com | MCNANEY: It Was One of Those Odd Nights
It was one of those odd nights...home bit early....I was just pulling dinner off the grill when I heard what was happening. Straight to the airport I went, the chopper picked me up and I was reporting live. From the air, I got a good overview of the collapse. And, in this day of great technology, I was able to e-mail, text and even speak to many of my federal sources about what was happening. With the exception of a very few hours, we were airborne from about 6:15 pm to 7pm the next day. People have asked, if the 35W bridge collapse was the "biggest" or "worst" tragedy I have ever covered. The answer is no. Not that this wasn't a tremendously heartbreaking event, but there is simply no way to compare a bridge collapse, to a plane crash, to a hurricane, to a war-zone......it is all bad. During the last year, the investigation into what happen has taken me all over the country to speak with experts. There is no doubt in my mind, that the cause of this collapse will be accurately determined....some remarkably smart people have made this a priority. |
