KSTC.TV Ch.45 wins Twins broadcast rights 3/5/02

KSTC.TV Channel 45 hit a home run today when the Minnesota Twins and Fox Sports Net North (FSN) announced that this independent television station is their pick to be the new over-the-air broadcast partner for the 2002 and 2003 Twins’ Baseball season.

Channel 45 will carry 25 games during the 2002 season beginning Friday, April 12th when the Twins host their home-opener against the Detroit Tigers. The home-opener will be simulcast on KSTP-TV Channel 5. (See the complete Channel 45/Minnesota Twins broadcast schedule below.)

"The Minnesota Twins are excited about this agreement with the Hubbard stations," Twins Chief Operating Officer Kevin Cattoor said. "The combination of Channels 45 and 5 along with our young team will provide an outstanding platform for telecasting Twins baseball while providing extensive coverage of our club with Joe Schmit’s sports programming."

The partnership was negotiated with the Minnesota Twins and license-holder Fox Sports Net North which will produce and carry 105 games via their cable television network. "We are looking forward to our partnership with KSTC to bring viewers exciting Twins Baseball," said Steve Woelfel, Vice President and General Manager for Fox Sports Net North. "Between KSTC and FSN coverage of the Twins, baseball fans will be able to catch 130 games of what promises to be an action-packed season."

Channel 45 Station Manager Susan Anderson said, "We’re very pleased to be named the Twins’ broadcast partner and promise to bring viewers and fans a great season of family entertainment! Our sister station, Channel 5, will step up to the plate with promotion support – and we have Eyewitness News at 9:00 p.m.on Channel 45 plus Joe Schmit’s Sports Wrap on Channel 5 to showcase Twins’ game coverage."

The Twins join several other sports teams in partnership with Channel 45 including Minnesota Gopher Men’s Basketball, St. Cloud State University Husky Hockey, and the St. Paul Saints. "That’s what we had envisioned for the station when we launched it in September 2000," said Ed Piette, General Manager of the KSTP/KSTC-TV duopoly. "As a local broadcast company, we look for exciting local programs that our viewers want. Between the Twins on 45 and Channel 5’s exclusive relationship with the Minnesota Vikings, we’re looking forward to working with two great professional Minnesota sports franchises."

KSTC-TV is locally owned and locally operated by Hubbard Broadcasting, Inc.
