INTERNET INSITE: Are people writing about you online?

Do you have an interesting Web site you'd like to see featured on Internet InSITE? Email Web Manager Justin Piehowski, jpiehowski@kstp.com. Watch INTERNET InSITE each Monday at 6:30 on 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS MORNING.

Ever wonder if someone is writing about you on the web? What about your friends, your family, your church, your favorite TV show or anything else you hold near and dear?

With the proliferation of blogs and social networking sites like MySpace, the odds are better than ever that someone out there has something to say related to you or one of your interests.

But, there are literally millions of web sites on the web and you just don’t have the time to do all the searching. So, why not have Google do the work for you?

The Google Alert feature has been around for some time but whenever I tell people about it, they are always surprised, so I figured it was worth mentioning again.

Click on the link below and fill out the form. The first box you’ll fill is called ‘search terms.’ Any time a new site is indexed in Google with that specific keyword, you’ll get an email.

Let's say you enter the search term "Minnetonka High School." Every time a new web site shows up with the terms "Minnetonka High School" you’ll get an email linking you to the new site. (Under type, I recommend selecting 'Comprehensive,' you'll get the most results).

After signing up, you'll get a confirmation email with instructions.

I have at least 10 different Google Alerts set up for important things in my work and personal life. Every morning, I open my email and the newest web sites relevant to me are in my email waiting for me.
