An 18-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly stealing a car and leading police on a high-speed chase.
According to the criminal complaint, an Anoka officer was on the 1300 block of Seventh Avenue on Thursday, Aug. 7, when he saw a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier that day. Two men were in the car at the time.
The officer followed the vehicle, but the driver sped away onto East River Road, according to the complaint. When he turned the corner, the officer saw that the car had crashed into a fence near a car wash parking lot.
One man at the car wash had detained the passenger, and the passenger said the driver was 18-year-old Jordan Allen Brown.
Brown was arrested a short time later, and police say the key to the vehicle was found in his front pocket. According to the complaint, Brown admitted to taking the vehicle from Plymouth and driving it around until he was arrested.
Brown has been charged with two counts of theft. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines on each charge.
