A Little Canada chiropractor pleaded guilty Monday to having sex with a patient without her consent.

According to the criminal complaint, Paul David Thompson of Vadnais Heights had been seeing a patient for about three years after she was injured in a car accident.

The patient told investigators Thompson had climbed on top of her during an appointment on May 8 and had sex with her.

She waited five days before telling her fiancé of the assault, the complaint said.

Thompson admitted to the incident when the fiancé confronted him, the complaint said.

Thompson also confessed to the assault to authorities and acknowledged the victim had not given consent, according to the complaint.

He pleaded guilty to third degree criminal sexual conduct. A charge of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct is expected to be dropped during sentencing.

State guidelines call for four years in prison, per the plea agreement.

Thompson, who doesn't have a prior criminal history, will be required to register as a predatory offender.
