An 11-year-old boy hit by a vehicle in North Branch last week has died from his injuries.

The North Branch Police Department says Dallas Kasper, of North Branch, died Saturday from his injuries. He was hit by a car Thursday around 8 p.m. while walking with his father along Fill Avenue near 375th Street.

Police say the 46-year-old woman who was driving the car drifted across the roadway and hit the child. She did stop and try to help.

The boy was airlifted to Regions Hospital in critical condition.

Police say the investigation is ongoing while they wait for accident reconstruction and toxicology reports. They are not identifying the driver at this time, and other details have not been released.

Friends and neighbors hope to raise enough money to cover any medical and funeral costs for the Kasper family.

"It's a devastating thing that happened to them, and I don't want them to have to worry about financial things," Katie Nelson, whose son was a classmate of Dallas Kasper, said. "I would like to raise as much money as possible for them."
