Demolition for a property on Payne Avenue in St. Paul began Thursday.
St. Paul’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority bought the property at 895 Payne Ave. and an adjacent property in May as part of a redevelopment project. The lot currently houses a vacant former electric motor shop and was previously home to a gas station and auto repair business.
City officials say the site needs to be cleared in order for future development to begin.
St. Paul City Councilmember Dan Bostrom delivered remarks before the demolition began Thursday morning.
