Next Step in John Doe Document Release Unclear

It's unclear whether a federal appeals court will release nearly three dozen documents linked to a secret investigation into Gov. Scott Walker's 2012 recall campaign.

Prosecutors have been looking into whether Walker's campaign illegally coordinated with conservative groups. The prosecutors are using a so-called John Doe procedure in which information is tightly controlled.

A federal judge halted the probe after one of the groups, Wisconsin Club for Growth, argued the investigation violates the organization's rights. The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals is reviewing the decision.

That court had planned to release 34 sealed case documents Tuesday. On Monday, however, the Wisconsin Club for Growth, two unnamed parties and the prosecutors all filed motions asking the court to keep some or all of the documents sealed. The court hasn't responded.
