A judge sentenced a St. Paul man to 18 years in prison after he shot a rival gang member outside of a Lake Street food store last September.

A jury convicted Zakaria Yusuf, 25, of first-degree attempted murder back in June. According to the criminal complaint, the victim was standing outside a store at 201 Lake Street West in Minneapolis when Yusuf walked up, pulled out a gun and fired at the victim. He shot the man in the arm.

When the victim tried running into the store, Yusuf shot several more times. The victim survived but has not cooperated with authorities. He was placed under court-ordered electronic home monitoring.
