St. Paul’s mayor is laying out his plan to close a multi-million dollar budget gap for the city.

For the past month, Mayor Chris Coleman has been working with city departments and taking public comments and suggestions from residents on how to fix a projected $9.6 million shortfall. Coleman attributes the gap to Local Government Aid reductions made in 2003.

Discussions about the budget began in June, with Coleman instructing each city department to find ways to cut costs without compromising services. He also held four public meetings throughout the summer at various St. Paul neighborhoods.

On Wednesday, Coleman will give his budget address at the newly-renovated Schmidt Brewery site. The meeting takes place at noon at 882 W. 7th St. in St. Paul.
