A young pup is recovering Tuesday night after a vet performed emergency surgery.

Bartley is a 3-year-old standard schnauzer, who loves chasing squirrels. He loves chasing them so much, his owners say he jumped through the glass window in their Greenfield, Minnesota, home Tuesday morning.

Jen and Ryan Ranallo said Bartley has bumped into the window before, but they never thought he would break through.

“I heard the glass break. I looked out and there he was, outside,” Jen Ranallo said. “Once I got him back inside and checked on him, I realized he needed to get to a veterinarian immediately.”

She took him to BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Eden Prairie, where Dr. Jeff Yu performed surgery to fix a serious cut on Bartley’s stomach. Dr. Yu said Bartley would have died without surgery and the quick action of his owner.

Bartley is being monitored and still receiving antibiotics, fluids and pain medication.

The Ranallos say they plan to move bird feeders away from the window Bartley crashed through to keep the wildlife away, and prevent this from happening again.
