West River Parkway along the Mississippi River will stay closed because of safety concerns.

Back in June, the hillside near the University of Minnesota Fairview Medical Center gave way after heavy rains. It sent mud and trees down the hillside, piling up on the road.

On Monday, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board said soil tests show the hillside is still unstable.

The 1-mile portion of the road between Fourth Street South and Franklin Avenue will stay closed to drivers and pedestrians until repairs can be made.

Work to fix the problem should start this fall. It won't likely be done until 2015.
