An idea two years ago by an intern has led to a lot of publicity for a museum in Minneapolis.

In August 2012, the Walker Art Center planned a small experiment as part of its outdoor summer programming at Open Field.

The museum decided it would dedicate an evening program to cat videos, calling the event the Internet Cat Video Festival.

Word of the program quickly spread internationally through social media. Event coverage was as varied as the New York Times, the BBC, Japanese television, Australian talk shows, Brazilian newspapers, CNN, NPR, the Wall Street Journal, Cat Fancy, Slate, Time, CHEEZburger, and more.

Around 10,000 people showed up that year to Open Field to enjoy the first Internet Cat Video Festival.

Last summer, the Walker presented the second installment of the Festival to an even larger crowd at the Minnesota State Fair.

This year, the Walker brings the Festival back as a free community event at Open Field on Thursday. It is programmed by cat video producer Will Braden, creator of the Henri le Chat Noir.

Braden has hosted several Festival tour events and received the Festival's first Golden Kitty Award.

The event will also feature food trucks, live music and a cash bar.

It begins at 6 p.m., with the screening expected to start around 8:45 p.m.
