The 32nd Street Beach at Lake Calhoun reopened Thursday after water samples taken earlier this week showed high levels of E. coli.

Water quality staff thinks the high levels were likely due to unusual conditions at the beach, such as ongoing high water levels and geese, according to Minneapolis Park and Recreation officials.

The water was sampled again and showed bacteria levels are safe.

Lake Calhoun’s Thomas beach and Lake Hiawatha beach remain closed and will be tested again Monday.

No illnesses have been reported.
