University of Minnesota Duluth football player, Austin Sikorski, was stabbed early Saturday morning, KSTP sister station WDIO reports.

The 22-year-old running back is recovering at St. Luke's Hospital from a stab wound to his lower right abdomen. Sikorski has been moved from the Intensive Care Unit and is listed in stable condition.

Police responded to the stabbing at about 1:55 a.m. at the intersection of West Superior Street and Lake Avenue after a street fight. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the altercation.

WDIO reports that an investigation into the stabbing has begun and there is a person of interest but no arrests or charges have been made.

"We are aware of an incident involving a UMD student and are in the process of gathering details, our primary concern at this time is for his well being," UMD Spokesperson Lori Melton said. "The matter is being handled by the Duluth Police Department."

Sikorski led his team in rushing last season with 1,290 yards and 16 touchdowns in 13 games.
