Officers need protection - even the ones with four legs.

People were raising money at Ridgedale Mall on Saturday to buy protective vests for K9 officers.

The Police K9 Invest Project organized the fundraiser. The organization has previously raised enough money for 10 vests for the Minneapolis Police Department.

The founder says her group makes a difference for police. They want to buy new vests for Minnetonka and Metro Transit K9 units.

One private donor even bought a whole new vest.

Next, the group hopes to add hi-tech cameras to the vests.

There is at least one dog working hard for officers. Minneapolis police posted photos on Facebook of Enzo, a rookie K9, in action.

They said he tracked down a stolen vehicle suspect to a back alley bush.
