More than 29 million Americans are living with diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The figure is 9.3 percent of the entire country. It's already a big number, but by 2050 the CDC thinks it could jump to one in every three Americans.
Doctor Elizabeth Seaquist from the University of Minnesota is a diabetes expert. She's stopped by KSTP to talk about her research and what needs to be done to stop or slow this upward trend.
