A road construction project in Carver County begins Monday.
Crews are building a new bridge and roundabout to connect Flying Cloud Drive and Highway 101 in Shakopee. The first step in the process is tree removal on Flying Cloud Drive, which is scheduled for Monday.
The Southwest Reconnection Project is meant to help with traffic problems caused by seasonal flooding of the Minnesota River. Crews will build a new four-lane Highway 101 that spans the floodplain between the current Highway 101 Minnesota River Bridge in Shakopee and Flying Cloud Drive in Chanhassen.
The project will also add the roundabout at the corridor to help with congestion and future improvements.
The project costs $54 million, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation expects to have the project completed by next year.
