Rates of uninsured people vary dramatically across states. Following the implementation of ACA/Obamacare, there has been a lot of talk but not a lot of real information consumers can use to compare states by insurance coverage rates.

A recent study by the Kaiser Family Foundation provides the best estimate to date of the proportion of private health plan enrollees under Obamacare who previously lacked health insurance and therefore would be gaining coverage under the new law.

Wallet Hub's analysts compiled this data to offer an initial projection of uninsured rates post-Obamcare for 43 states and the District of Columbia.

Stats on Minnesota

  • Health insurance coverage in Minnesota has our state ranked as the 7th highest for insurance coverage post-Obamcare.
  • In Minnesota 6.61 percent of the population lacks health insurance.
  • Obamacare reduced the uninsured rate by 3.47 percentage points in one year.
  • 131,603 individuals enrolled in private health insurance plans under Obamacare.
