American conductor Andrew Litton will drop the downbeat on Thursday morning to launch the Minnesota Orchestra’s annual Sommerfest.

This concert will mark the Orchestra’s first Sommerfest performances in downtown Minneapolis in two years and its first-ever in the renovated Orchestra Hall. The 2013 festival was canceled due to the labor dispute; the 2012 festival was held offsite, due to the renovation of Orchestra Hall.

The sold-out concert will feature music by Rachmaninoff and Brahms, Russian piano star Natasha Paremski, and an entirely new look and set-up for the outdoor component of the popular festival.

Artistic Director Litton will continue to lead Sommerfest performances through Saturday, July 26. Sommerfest was originally launched by the Minnesota Orchestra in 1980, and Andrew Litton is its longest serving artistic director.

This concert will begin on July 10, at 11 a.m. at the Orchestra Hall 111 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis.
