A crowd of people filled up the training center at Cretin-Derham Hall Thursday afternoon to hear where their soon-to-be senior defensive end was going to attend college after their upcoming season. Jashon Cornell, a five-star recruit and No. 16 overall on ESPN.com, announced that he will attend Ohio St. University.
Cornell, who was ranked as the No. 1 prospect of the 2015 class by ESPN after his sophomore season, said it came down to comfort and pedigree, noting the amount of first and second round draft picks the school has had get drafted throughout the years.
The Cretin-Derham star said he didn't make up his mind until last night, saying Ohio St. edged out Michigan St. for his talents. The other three schools in his top-five were Iowa, Penn St. and Notre Dame.
Cornell said the Gophers finished sixth on his list and were in the top-five at one point, but said the school started showing less interest lately, whereas Iowa did not, thus edging the Gophers out of contention when he announced his decision.
Cornell said it will be very nice to fully focus on football and trying to win a state championship, rather than recruiting and deciding which school he'll attend.
