8 Rescued After Search in Boundary Waters Canoe Area

Eight people have been rescued after a water search in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. 

Officials staging on the scene at LaTourell's Resort about 20 miles northeast of Ely on Moose Lake tell KSTP sister station WDIO, five juveniles and three adults are safe and accounted for Thursday night. 

Some were suffering from mild hypothermia and flown to Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital for care. 

Officials say the boat the party was in may have capsized, but more details were not immediately available. 

It's was a rainy and windy day in the region. The National Weather Service reported sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph at Ely Thursday afternoon, with gusts as high as 37 mph.
