Seventy-five years ago, a young singer and actress from Grand Rapids, Minnesota, starred in a movie that would become a Hollywood classic – and it’s still being celebrated today.
Wednesday kicks off a weeklong festival celebrating “The Wizard of Oz” at the Judy Garland Museum in her hometown of Grand Rapids.
The event includes a film festival, a youth talent contest, guest speakers, family activities and more. On Friday, organizers also hope to break the world record for the most fully-costumed Wizard of Oz characters in one place.
This year, the museum will open a new exhibit featuring more than 3,000 items from the movie, including original props.
The festival runs from Wednesday through Sunday. Find more information about it here.
