Boaters will hopefully be able to go full steam ahead on Lake Minnetonka soon – especially because a premier yacht racing event is set for next week.

Last week, the Lake Minnetonka Water Conservation District imposed a "no wake” restriction for the Twin Cities metro's biggest and busiest lake until further notice. In order for the emergency restrictions to be lifted, water levels need to stay at 930.30 feet for three days in a row.

On Tuesday, event organizers held a news conference to discuss “America’s Cup on a Lake,” the 2014 A Scow National Championship Regatta that’s expected to bring the top 25 yacht racing teams in the Midwest to the Twin Cities.

The A Scow Skippers have a 115-year history, and organizers say the racing design originated here in the Twin Cities at Johnson Boat Works in White Bear Lake in 1895.

The event takes place from June 19-22. Find more information here.
