A trail in Dakota County has closed because of a mudslide.

Big Rivers Regional Trail was closed to walkers and cyclists Monday after shifting topsoil left the area impassable, according to Beth Landahl with the Dakota County Parks Department.

The 4.5 mile trail is closed from Highway 13 in Mendota Heights to Lilydale near the Minnesota River. Landahl said trail closure barricades are in place at both the Mendota and Lilydale accesses.

Maintenance crews will clear the debris once the slide has stabilized, Landahl said.

The trail will be closed until further notice.

The closure comes after nearly record-setting rain totals in the month of June.
