Mounds View senior pitcher Sam Hentges' storied high school baseball career picked up another accolade Wednesday night, as the Mustangs won the 5AAA Section Championship 3-0 over Champlin Park.

Fresh off of winning the 2013-14 Gatorade Minnesota Baseball Player of the Year, Hentges will attempt to win his second consecutive State Championship. Not to mention this game took place on the eve of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft in Major League Baseball, where Hentges is hoping to here his name called early on. He has already committed to the University of Arkansas, so if he isn't pleased with where he's drafted, he'll travel south to play in the Southeastern Conference.

Mounds View did not have to rely on the arm of Hentges this game. Instead, fans witnessed a seven-hit shutout out of senior pitcher Kellen Rholl. Hentges didn't go unnoticed, however. He was penciled in his usual third spot in the batting order and knocked in the first run of the game with a single to center field, while also playing stout defense at first base.

Champlin Park had their opportunities in the game -- outhitting Mounds View 7-5 -- but kicked themselves in the foot with poor base running decisions and stranding other runners.

Whether Hentges gets drafted in the first few rounds or not, he and his team still have quite the week ahead of them. Seniors will graduate and then they'll head to Target Field for the State Tournament, which will be June 12-13.
