Emergency responders were on the scene Friday with Anoka-Hennepin’s STEP responding to a multi-car crash at Anoka Technical College.

Don’t worry, it was only a drill.

STEP is a high school in a college setting where students explore hands-on careers, all while earning high school and college credit.

The drill simulated a seven-car crash, and a group of STEP's law enforcement students served as first responding police officers.

The drill was designed to serve as a real-life learning opportunity for STEP students in health and law enforcement classes.

"The only other opportunity you'd have would be a real mass casualty accident which is more high stress," said junior, Elizabeth Klassen.  "In a fake one, you can take your time and learn how to use all the tools."

Law enforcement students helped with and learned about crash investigations and on-site security.

Health and medical students learned about triage, hazardous material mitigation, extrications, victim treatment and other topics.

Cosmetology students also got in on the action by providing the victim makeup.
