Created: 05/13/2014 5:33 AM KSTP.com

Ditches and other low areas in the Fox River Valley are flooding after heavy rainfall.

Post-Crescent Media reports Monday's rain in Appleton broke a record for the day set in 1942. The city received 1.9 inches of rain by 7 a.m., breaking the previous record of 1.76 inches.

The National Weather Service in Sullivan received 3.10 inches of rain in about 8 hours. Hail measuring up to 1.5 inches is reported in downtown Racine.

A flash flood watch was issued that stretches from southwestern Wisconsin northeast through the Appleton and Green Bay areas.

Christina Muller is the interim emergency management director for Outagamie County. She says that while the Fox and Wolf rivers are near flood stage, they aren't at levels that would damage homes or businesses.
