Two St. Francis men have been charged after admitting to breaking into a home and stealing a gun.

St. Francis officers were called to the 3800 block of 232nd Avenue Northwest on Tuesday, April 15, on a report of a burglary.

The victim said his Ruger P345 pistol was missing from his bedroom, and another person in the home said 22-year-old Jacob Dean Theis and 18-year-old Dakota John Uhrich, both of St. Francis, may have been involved.

Officers went to Theis’s residence to question him. Theis told police that Uhrich had picked him up that morning and said he wanted to break into a house to steal a firearm, according to the criminal complaint. Theis said they drove to the victim’s house and that Uhrich went inside and came out with a black case box. He told police they drove near Butterfield Apartments and threw the case into the bushes and that Uhrich put the gun in his waistband.

Police later recovered the case where Theis said it would be.

Uhrich admitted to breaking into the house, stealing the gun, and selling the gun for $125 cash and heroin, according to the complaint.

Theis and Uhrich have each been charged with second-degree burglary and theft. If convicted, they each face up to 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines on the burglary charge and up to 20 years in prison and $100,000 in fines on the theft charge.
